Why go

Daereungwon is a park of large grassy burial mounds holding the tombs of Silla kings and nobles in the heart of Gyeongju.

One mound, Cheonmachong, is open inside to show excavated treasures and a famous painted saddle flap.

The park holds 23 large earthen mounds raised over Silla kings and nobles. Cheonmachong, excavated in the 1970s, gave up a gold crown and the 'Heavenly Horse' painting that names it, while the neighbouring Hwangnam Daechong is the largest tomb of all.
