Dosan Seowon
A serene riverside Confucian academy near Andong founded for the great scholar Yi Hwang (Toegye).
Why go
Dosan Seowon is a tranquil Confucian academy set among pines above the Nakdong River, a short drive out of Andong.
It grew from the simple study where Yi Hwang — the revered scholar known as Toegye — taught, and was later expanded in his memory.
A UNESCO-listed seowon, its restrained wooden halls and courtyards capture the quiet beauty of Joseon-era learning, and Toegye's portrait even appears on a Korean banknote.
