Why go

Hwaseong Haenggung was a temporary palace where the king stayed when visiting Suwon — the largest of Joseon’s detached palaces, set within Hwaseong Fortress.

Restored courtyards and halls host changing-of-the-guard and martial-arts performances.

Hwaseong Haenggung served King Jeongjo on visits to his father's tomb, and in 1795 it hosted the lavish 60th-birthday feast for his mother — an event re-enacted today. The grandest of Joseon's detached palaces, it has featured in many historical dramas.
