Why go

Mudeungsan rises right behind Gwangju — a national park of forested ridges and famous columnar-rock formations near the summit.

Well-graded trails make it a favourite day hike, with wide views back over the city.

Designated a national park in 2013, Mudeungsan — its name means 'mountain without equal' — is crowned by the Seoseokdae and Ipseokdae columnar cliffs, natural stone pillars protected as a national monument. The Uijae art museum sits on its lower slopes.
