Why go

Dongpirang is a steep old neighbourhood above Tongyeong's Gangguan harbor, saved from demolition and covered in bright murals by artists and volunteers.

Climbing its painted lanes rewards you with harbour views and photo-perfect corners at every turn.

The name means 'east cliff'. When the hillside neighbourhood was slated for demolition around 2007, a public mural competition instead turned its walls into an open-air gallery — earning it the nickname Tongyeong's Montmartre — and the murals are repainted periodically to keep them fresh.
