Hansando
A peaceful wooded island off Tongyeong, site of Admiral Yi's famous Hansan naval victory.

Why go
Hansando is a quiet, green island a short ferry from Tongyeong, ringed by calm waters and pine-covered shores.
It is remembered as the site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's celebrated Hansan Island victory, marked today by the Jeseungdang shrine.
In 1592 the island's waters saw Admiral Yi Sun-sin crush a Japanese fleet at the Battle of Hansan Island, using his famous 'crane wing' formation — one of the turning points of the Imjin War. The Jeseungdang shrine and its lookout pavilion honour him today.
