Why go

Gyeonggijeon is a tranquil walled shrine holding a portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon dynasty, right beside Jeonju Hanok Village.

Its bamboo groves and old halls are a calm counterpoint to the busy lanes outside.

Built in 1410, Gyeonggijeon enshrines a royal portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon dynasty. Its grounds also hold the Royal Portrait Museum and a repository that once safeguarded the dynasty's official annals — a UNESCO documentary-heritage record.
