Why go

Hyangiram is a small hermitage built into the rocky cliffs at the southern tip of Dolsan Island, reached by a steep path and narrow rock passages.

It looks straight out over the open sea and is one of Korea's celebrated spots to watch the sunrise.

Founded in 644 in the Silla era, Hyangiram is one of Korea's four celebrated seaside prayer sites. Pilgrims squeeze through narrow rock clefts to reach halls perched over the water, and its New Year sunrise festival draws big crowds.
