Odongdo is a small, forested island just off Yeosu, joined to the mainland by a long breakwater you can walk or ride a little dongbaek train across.
In late winter its camellia trees bloom red, and shaded paths lead to a lighthouse and sea-view lookouts.
The island is cloaked in thousands of camellia trees and dense bamboo, and legend ties its name to a phoenix said to have fed on its paulownia (odong) trees. A lighthouse at its tip helps guide ships into Yeosu.
