Why go

The National Museum of Korea in Yongsan is the country's flagship museum, tracing Korean history from prehistory through the Joseon era across vast, well-labelled galleries.

General admission is free and English signage makes it easy for first-time visitors.

Opened at its Yongsan home in 2005, it ranks among the world's most-visited museums, holding hundreds of thousands of objects. Highlights include the gold crowns of Silla, the serene Pensive Bodhisattvas, and the towering Gyeongcheonsa stone pagoda rising in the central hall.
