Why go

Sanbangsan is a striking bell-shaped lava dome on Jeju's southwest coast, with a cliff grotto temple (Sanbanggulsa) part-way up and wide views over the sea.

The Yongmeori coast right below makes an easy half-day.

The dome is a lava plug that hardened in a volcanic vent — by legend, a peak torn from Hallasan. The Sanbanggulsa grotto shrine sits in a natural cave part-way up, and the rare cliff plants on its slopes are protected as a natural monument.
